Emergency Time Off

Watch Gov. Cuomo address the nation at https://youtu.be/RjbIVnnMT18

Watching Governor Cuomo of New York speak made me very anxious. COVID-19 is an extreme health crisis that the American people were not prepared for. Under the "leadership" of Donald J. Trump, this country has faced some severe turmoil. He stated in the video that no one can predict what is going to happen with this virus. That worries me. I used to have faith in the government, and I believed that they would always know what to do in a crisis, and it is evident that they do not know what to do in these circumstances. In 2014, President Obama warned us to put in place infrastructure globally that in the event of a pandemic, we would be able to "See it quickly, isolate it quickly and respond to it quickly." Well, that didn't exactly happen. Now we are behind the eight-ball and don't know how to address this pandemic. The country has been on lockdown for approximately a month and there's no end in sight. Although the curve has been flattened many people are more worried about the country opening up too soon than staying closed too long. Governor Cuomo doesn't downplay the severity of the virus. He lets us know that although this virus is serious, "Life goes on." Which is true. Like his brother, Chris Cuomo, who fought and overcame the Coronavirus says, "We are all in this together." We do not know what the next few days or even weeks might look like with this virus running rampant, but one thing is for sure, we are ALL in this together. I think it is best to focus on the strength of the American people at this time, not our weaknesses.
